EASTERN CAPE — Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 40-year-old son for the alleged murder of his mother in Tsolo, following a tragic domestic incident that has deeply shaken the local community. The suspect is currently receiving medical care under police guard after allegedly using a stick to fatally assault his 69-year-old mother.
The fatal altercation occurred in the Upper Mjika locality on Friday, 14 August 2026, at approximately 18:30. According to reports, the victim was severely beaten and subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries upon arrival.
When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they found that local residents had already intervened. Community members detained the suspect and assaulted him in retaliation for the horrific act. He was then transported to the hospital under strict police protection and will remain there until he is fit to stand trial.
Once medically discharged, the 40-year-old is scheduled to face a charge of murder in the Tsolo Magistrates Court. Meanwhile, investigators are working to uncover the exact motive behind the deadly attack, which remains an active part of the ongoing probe.
Acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntuli, expressed profound shock at the violence, condemning the breakdown of family bonds.
“It is so disturbing that a mother and son relationship can end up in such a gruesome manner,” Brigadier Ntuli stated upon being briefed about the fatal incident.
