Employee Arrested for Murder of Employer at Vaal Racecourse

Police have arrested a 55-year-old employee in connection with the murder of his 73-year-old employer at the Vaal Racecourse premises.

According to police reports, on Saturday evening, 4 April 2026 at approximately 20:04, the deceased and the suspect—both of whom reside on the same premises—were consuming alcohol when a verbal altercation broke out over horse racing winnings. The argument escalated, and the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with a spade.

The suspect subsequently reported the incident to a security officer, who immediately contacted emergency services.

Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the scene, where the 73-year-old male victim was found unresponsive inside his residence. EMS personnel declared the victim dead on arrival.

The 55-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
