Schoemansdal Rape Sentence: Mpumalanga Teen Jailed for 5 Years After 2022 Attack

MPUMALANGA — A definitive Schoemansdal rape sentence was handed down this week, delivering justice for a horrific crime that shook a local community nearly four years ago. The Boschfontein Regional Court sentenced 19-year-old Nduduzo Enock Suprise Mhlongo to five years of direct imprisonment for the 2022 sexual assault of a minor.

The conviction stems from a terrifying home invasion in the early hours of September 25, 2022. According to court proceedings, the 13-year-old victim was sleeping alongside her four younger siblings at their family residence in the Khulubuse Section of the Schoemansdal Trust while her parents were away. Mhlongo, who was 15 years old at the time of the offense, unlawfully entered the home. He allegedly threatened the teenager, warning her that he would kill her if she screamed, and assaulted her with a slap to the face.

In a calculated move, the intruder briefly left the residence, claiming he needed to retrieve a firearm. He then returned and forced the young girl to accompany him into a nearby bush, where the sexual assault took place.

The situation shifted when a passer-by heard the victim’s cries for help and immediately investigated the disturbance. Startled by the witness, Mhlongo fled the scene but abandoned his trousers. The Good Samaritan assisted the traumatized girl and quickly alerted the local Community Police Forum (CPF). Members of the CPF recognized the discarded clothing as belonging to the teenager and, with community assistance, successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect.

Following the arrest, specialized detectives from the Tonga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit took over the docket. An official spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga praised the unit for conducting a meticulous investigation, gathering critical evidence, and collaborating closely with the prosecution team to build a comprehensive case.

On Monday, August 3, 2026, those investigative efforts culminated in a successful prosecution. Alongside the five-year prison term, the court officially declared Mhlongo unfit to possess a firearm.
