Justice for Nomvelo Rossow: Mpumalanga Killer Handed Double Life Sentence

MPUMALANGA — The search for justice in the tragic Nomvelo Rossow murder case has concluded in a Breyten courtroom, where a Mpumalanga child killer was handed two life sentences for his horrific crimes. The severe punishment for 21-year-old Sifiso George Sibiloane marks the end of a deeply disturbing investigation that began with the abduction of the seven-year-old earlier this year.

The nightmare originally unfolded in March 2026 in the town of Charl Cilliers when authorities were alerted to the disappearance of the young girl. The South African Police Service (SAPS) immediately mobilized multiple units to comb the area. The crucial breakthrough came when officers intercepted a man acting suspiciously with a bag. Inside, they found blood-soaked clothing belonging to a minor. This grim discovery directed search teams to a local maize field, where Nomvelo’s lifeless body was recovered.

Investigators quickly traced the suspect to the Seyferfontein Farm near Charl Cilliers, leading to his swift arrest. By building a watertight docket backed by vital forensic evidence, the prosecution secured a conviction on charges of both rape and murder. On Thursday, 13 August 2026, the Mpumalanga High Court formalized the penalty, locking Sibiloane away for two life terms. Additionally, the judge ordered that his name be added to the relevant sexual offenders’ register and declared him permanently unfit to own a firearm.

Provincial police leadership expressed profound satisfaction with the outcome. Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, the SAPS Provincial Commissioner for Mpumalanga, lauded the collaborative dedication of the detective team and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for their relentless pursuit of the truth.

“We hope that this sentence will send a strong message to perpetrators who target children, that they have no place in society,” Lieutenant General Modise stated. “Our detectives worked tirelessly to ensure that this case is speedily finalised, and justice has been served for the minor and the family.”

The successful prosecution underscores the ongoing commitment of the SAPS to combat gender-based violence and safeguard the most vulnerable members of the community. Officials maintain that bringing those who commit heinous acts to book remains a top provincial priority.
