Members of the Limpopo Provincial Flying Squad have confiscated illicit cigarettes valued at approximately R60,000 following a vehicle pursuit on April 2, 2026, in the Sebayeng policing area outside Mankweng.
At around 13:30, officers conducting routine patrols on the N1 North observed a white Mahindra bakkie traveling at high speed in a southern direction. Police became suspicious and pursued the vehicle, instructing the driver to stop for inspection due to excessive speed.
The driver did not comply and continued driving at high speed, subsequently colliding with the police vehicle on its left rear side. The suspect’s vehicle then turned onto a gravel road toward Solomondale.
Officers continued the pursuit but temporarily lost sight of the vehicle along the gravel road. A search led to the discovery of the abandoned vehicle near a local garage.
Upon inspection, police found the vehicle loaded with illicit cigarettes with an estimated street value of R60,000. The vehicle and the illicit goods were confiscated as part of ongoing investigations.
No arrests have been made. Police investigations are continuing to locate and apprehend the suspect or suspects involved.
