Off-duty members of the SAPS OR Tambo District Task Team responded to a complaint of an armed robbery in the Lungqongqweni locality, Lusikisiki, on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, and arrested two male suspects.
The two suspects, from the same locality, were found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with an erased serial number and one live round of ammunition. They had been robbing high school learners residing in the area.
Community members cornered the suspects and held them until police arrived, leading to the arrest.
Two cellphones that had been robbed at gunpoint from other learners on Friday, 3 April 2026, were recovered from the two suspects. The duo was positively linked to the armed robbery that occurred on that Friday, in which two cellphones and cash were taken.
