The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Namakwa District has intensified its efforts to combat drug-related activities in local communities.
On Wednesday, 08 April 2026, members attached to the Springbok Public Order Police observed suspicious activity at a well-known drug outlet in the Bergsig area.
At approximately 10:00, police members were conducting waylay duties near Selfbou Skema in Bergsig, an area known for drug-related activity. During the operation, officers observed several suspected individuals entering and exiting the premises where an alleged suspect resides — a location previously identified as a drug house.
Acting under Section 22(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act due to the imminent risk of evidence being destroyed, members conducted a search and seizure operation. Authorities confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R3,785.56, as well as cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
Two suspects, aged 31 and 39, were arrested and are expected to appear in court soon.
