Two Arrested, Large Cache of Unlicensed Firearms and Ammunition

Integrated operations by Parkweg Crime Prevention and Crime Intelligence resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of a significant number of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Sunday, 5 April 2026.

At approximately 21:50, the team acted on credible intelligence about a male individual suspected of possessing illegal weapons. The investigation led officers to a residence in Dilape Street, Batho.

Upon arrival, a male occupant met the team. After a formal introduction and explanation of their mission, the suspect granted officers entry into the premises. Officers immediately noticed a large rifle safe that appeared to have been forcefully tampered with, but it was found to be empty.

A persistent search led to the discovery of 23 boxes of various caliber ammunition hidden near a kitchen cabinet. During a tactical search of the bedroom, officers found a 36-year-old female lying on a bed. She appeared hesitant to move or cooperate. Once she was moved, a search beneath the mattress revealed four rifles, including an airgun.

A total of 1,163 rounds of ammunition and four rifles were confiscated during the operation.

The suspects—a 46-year-old foreign national and his 36-year-old girlfriend—were immediately taken into custody for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The seized firearms and ammunition will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they have been used in the commission of other crimes. The safe was also confiscated as investigations continue.

The suspects are expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
