Father Sentenced to 13 Years for Brutal Murder of Son in Drunken Argument

The Palmridge Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced a 46-year-old man from Khumalo Valley, Katlehong, to 13 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of his 27-year-old son, Ntobeko Dlamini.

The fatal incident occurred on the night of 20 August 2023 at approximately 23:08. According to court evidence, the deceased and his biological father were engaged in a heated argument while drinking alcohol in the company of the father’s girlfriend. The dispute reportedly centered around the girlfriend’s presence. During the altercation, the girlfriend took her beers and departed the residence.

Following her departure, the court heard that the father’s anger escalated violently. He first assaulted his son with a broom stick, striking him multiple times. He then took a beer bottle and struck Ntobeko Dlamini on the head. When the younger man fell to the ground, the father proceeded to stab him repeatedly all over his body.

Police were summoned to the scene in Khumalo Valley, where a case docket was opened and assigned for investigation. Detective Warrant Officer Sonnyboy Ngema of the Katlehong South African Police Service (SAPS) led the investigation. Warrant Officer Ngema was credited by the court with ensuring that all necessary evidence and case documentation were thoroughly prepared and submitted, contributing to a successful prosecution.

On 18 March 2026, the 46-year-old father was formally found guilty and sentenced to a term of 13 years direct imprisonment for the murder of Ntobeko Dlamini.
