Two Arrested for Unlicensed Firearm and Dagga

– Two suspects were arrested in Mokopane on Wednesday night during an intelligence-driven operation targeting unlicensed firearms.

The South African Police Service in the Waterberg District, acting on information about a residence in Schoeman Street allegedly harbouring unlicensed firearms and ammunition, obtained a search warrant and moved on the premises at approximately 22:30 on 22 April 2026. Officers were joined by members of the Rural Safety and Community Policing Forum.

Upon arrival, police found a 32-year-old female and a 35-year-old male. After explaining the purpose of their visit, permission to search the premises was granted. The search yielded one homemade rifle with ammunition, one spent cartridge, two sachets of dagga, seven hand radios and various cellphones. The occupants could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the recovered items and were arrested on the scene.

Investigations are underway to determine if the seized firearm is connected to other crimes and to establish ownership of the suspected stolen hand radios and cellphones. The two suspects are expected to appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 April 2026, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of dagga, and possession of suspected stolen property. Police investigations are continuing.
