Two Arrested in Limpopo for Possession of Copper Cable During Stop-and-Search Operation

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the multi-disciplinary forces operating in the province following the arrest of two male suspects for possession of copper cable.

The arrests were carried out on Saturday, 18 April 2026, at approximately 18:00 by the Waterberg Task Team, Northam Crime Prevention Unit, Northam Rural Safety, Northam Y Cops, and Amandelbult Protection Services.

According to the report, the multi-disciplinary team was conducting a stop-and-search operation when they encountered two males carrying a red bag. A search of the bag revealed 28 rolls of copper cable. The suspects, aged 65 and 42, were unable to provide proof of ownership for the items.

The estimated street value of the recovered cables is R3,500.00. The two suspects were taken into custody and detained at Northam Police Station.

Lieutenant General Hadebe stated, “The importance of collaboration in fighting crime in the province cannot be overemphasised. The role of various stakeholders is equally important, and it serves as a force multiplier in our quest to fight crime. This is bearing fruit and creating a crime-free environment.”

The suspects are expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
