EASTERN CAPE — A devastating Kwanobuhle triple murder has sparked an intensive manhunt in the Eastern Cape after three young men were found fatally shot in a local brush area. Law enforcement officials are currently seeking the unknown assailants responsible for the killings that have shaken the Peace Village community.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, authorities launched a comprehensive investigation following the discovery of the victims on the morning of 3 August 2026. Responding officers arrived at the scene across from Thuthula Street at approximately 09:35 to secure the perimeter after receiving an alert. The deceased were subsequently identified as 17-year-old Alwaba Toba, 20-year-old Ayabonga Jantjie, and 22-year-old Bonginkosi Matunbu. Relatives of the victims were brought to the location and officially confirmed the identities of their loved ones at the scene.
Detectives have formally registered a docket comprising three counts of murder at the local SAPS Kwanobuhle precinct. Because the underlying motive for the executions remains a mystery, the specialized Serious and Violent Crime Investigation (SVCI) Unit has assumed control of the probe. The suspects remain at large while specialized detectives work to track down those responsible for the fatal shooting.
