The Free State police’s Crime Detection unit has welcomed the significant sentence handed down to 32-year-old Abram Tukula for the rape of a 9-year-old victim in 2018.

The docket was transferred to the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The investigation was assigned to Sergeant Evodia Maseko, whose diligent work and commitment to the case ensured a watertight investigation.

Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thabang Lesia stated that the sentence should serve as a stern warning to those who prey on the most vulnerable members of society. He commended the investigative team and the prosecution for their tireless efforts in ensuring that justice was served for the victim and her family.
