An intelligence-driven operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tshwane District Stabilisation Task Team, supported by private security, resulted in a deadly shootout on Thursday, 23 April 2026.
Police acted on information indicating that suspects were allegedly planning to commit a business robbery. The suspects were followed from Pretoria. When law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle in Midrand, the suspects failed to comply, sped off, and opened fire on police, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
The pursuit ended when the suspects’ vehicle stopped at Klipfontein View, Rabie Ridge. One suspect was fatally wounded. A second suspect sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard. A third suspect fled the scene on foot.
Inside the suspects’ vehicle, police recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, both with serial numbers filed off.
A case of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition has been opened. Investigations are ongoing.
