The Pixley Ka Seme District Management has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of Elias van Rooi, 42, for murder. Van Rooi was sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment in the Douglas Regional Court on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.
The conviction stems from an incident on 09 February 2025. Between 15:00 and 16:00, Douglas police responded to a complaint of a fight between two brothers-in-law in Cyprus Street, Breipal, Douglas.
Upon arrival at the scene, police witnessed the accused fatally stab the deceased, Koos Abrahams, 46, in the neck with a knife. Van Rooi was immediately arrested at the scene and charged with murder.
On 22 April 2026, the Douglas Regional Court convicted Elias van Rooi of murder. In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, the court declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm.
