A 35-year-old male was arrested on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, on charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition.
The incident occurred at approximately 08:30 in Avonwood, Elsies River. Members of the Maitland Flying Squad responded to a complaint of a shooting in progress.
Upon arrival, community members directed officers in the direction the suspect had fled. The suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm Taurus pistol containing five rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was detained at Elsies River South African Police Service (SAPS). He will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court upon being formally charged.
