Bloemfontein Landfill Raid Yields Copper, Brass, and Drugs; Ten Arrested

A joint operation targeting essential infrastructure theft and drug dealing at the Southern Landfill Site in the Kagisanong Police Station area, Mangaung Metro, resulted in the arrest of ten suspects on Monday, 20 April 2026.

The operation, conducted as part of #OperationShanela II, involved members of the Bloemfontein K9 Unit alongside private security personnel from the Bloemsec Rapid Response Unit and the Fidelity ADT B.M Unit.

Acting on information received, the team conducted a search of the landfill site. During the search, officers confiscated 160.90 kilograms of copper cable, 20.22 kilograms of brass, and five bags containing aluminum, pipes, and taps. Presumably stolen property was also recovered.

A subsequent search of temporary structures erected on the landfill premises led to the seizure of crystal meth, dagga, and Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R5,000.00. Cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales was also confiscated.

Ten suspects, aged between 18 and 45, were placed under arrest.

Case dockets have been opened at Kagisanong Police Station for tampering, damaging, or destroying essential infrastructure (theft of copper cable), possession of presumably stolen property, and possession and dealing in drugs.

The ten suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
