The Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced Bhekisisa Khumalo, 54, to 13 years of direct imprisonment for murder.
The sentence was handed down on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
According to police information, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 13 November 2024. At approximately 08:04, Zamdela police responded to a complaint of murder at a residence in Chris Hani. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of 23-year-old Mantsana “Spado” Thulo inside an outside toilet on the property. The victim was partially undressed and unresponsive. Emergency services declared her dead at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Sibongile Nyofane conducted a preliminary investigation and, acting on information received, collaborated with other SAPS units to establish a vehicle checkpoint on the N3 highway. During a search of taxis traveling towards Bergville, the suspect was located and arrested.
Investigators determined that the accused and the deceased had met at a local tavern before proceeding to his residence. An altercation reportedly occurred at the outside toilet, resulting in the death of the victim.
