The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga has arrested a 35-year-old suspect found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as part of ongoing intensified efforts to combat violent crime.
On Friday, 10 April 2026, at approximately 10:00, members of Acornhoek SAPS received information from a reliable source regarding an individual allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The officers were supported by detectives, the Ehlanzeni Crime Intelligence Team (CIT), and Acornhoek Crime Intelligence.
Acting on the information, the team proceeded to Tsakane Trust within the Acornhoek policing area. Upon arrival, the premises were tactically approached and searched.
During the search, members recovered a 9mm pistol with a filed-off serial number hidden under a bed. Additionally, one magazine and 37 live rounds of ammunition were seized.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 April 2026, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
