A 42-year-old man from Slovo Park, near Phuthaditjhaba in Qwaqwa, has been arrested after handing himself over to police in connection with the alleged murder of his 38-year-old girlfriend from Harankopane Village.
Police proceeded to the suspect’s residence to verify the report. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the woman, who had sustained multiple bruises to the face. Emergency medical personnel declared her dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple allegedly had an argument over infidelity, which escalated into a physical altercation.
The South African Police Service has urged communities to speak out against domestic violence and gender-based violence, stating: “Together, we must protect one another and break the silence surrounding abuse.”
