The Namakwa Management has welcomed the sentence handed down by the Regional Court to a 47-year-old woman for a brutal attack that left a male victim with severe head injuries.
On 10 March 2026, Katriena April was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on a charge of attempted murder. In addition to the prison term, the court declared her unfit to possess a firearm.
The incident occurred on 30 April 2024. According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the male victim visited April’s residence in Fraserburg accompanied by his wife with the intention of purchasing home-brewed beer.
An argument ensued between the male victim and his wife. It is alleged that April intervened and, without provocation, seized an enamel cup and struck the victim repeatedly on the head.
The victim collapsed as a result of the assault, but April reportedly continued the attack. Due to the severity of his head injuries, the victim was initially transported to the local clinic in Fraserburg before being transferred to a hospital in Upington for further medical treatment.
