A 35-year-old man is set to appear in court today following the discovery of the bodies of his two young sons near a river over the weekend.
Police were summoned to a scene at bushes adjacent to a river at Skuinsdrift–Tshwaro Farms, near Groot Marico, during the afternoon of Saturday, 7 March 2026. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the lifeless bodies of a 1-year-old baby boy and his 3-year-old brother. Emergency and Medical Rescue Services attended the scene and pronounced both children deceased. It is confirmed that the victims had sustained multiple injuries.
According to initial police information, the father had allegedly collected the children from their grandmother on Saturday. At the time, the boys’ mother was attending church services. Preliminary reports indicate that an argument had taken place between the couple earlier, during which the father allegedly threatened to kill the children.
Following the discovery of the bodies, a search operation was launched. With the assistance of members of the local community, the father was traced and apprehended on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Groot Marico Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, where he will face two counts of murder.
