Two Suspects to Appear in Court for Murder and Firearms Possession

Two suspects, aged 33 and 43, are scheduled to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing charges of murder, as well as the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The arrests stem from an incident on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at approximately 18:30. According to police reports, members of the Johannesburg Central Police Station were conducting routine patrols in the area when they heard gunshots emanating from the local taxi rank.

Upon immediate response, officers discovered a 42-year-old man lying at the scene in a pool of blood. Witnesses reported seeing two armed men fleeing the area. When the suspects noticed the approaching police, they attempted to evade arrest by hiding in a nearby building. However, they were swiftly cornered and taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the two men led to the recovery of a revolver loaded with 39 live rounds of ammunition, a 9mm pistol with 10 live rounds, and an undisclosed amount of cash, which included Lesotho currency.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
