
Two suspects wanted in connection with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder were shot and fatally wounded in a shootout with police in the Mzomusha area, Newtown C Section, in the early hours of Monday morning.
The operation, which began just after midnight on 9 March 2026, was part of a search for at least five suspects linked to several violent crimes in the area. According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, officers located two of the suspects with the assistance of a drone .
“When police approached the house in which the suspects were hiding, a shootout ensued which resulted in the two suspects, aged 20 and 25, sustaining fatal gunshot wounds,” Colonel Netshiunda said .
Following the exchange of gunfire, police recovered two firearms from the possession of the deceased suspects .
Authorities have confirmed that a search is underway for the remaining suspects connected to the cases .
