Two Mozambican nationals, Enock Khoza (27) and Laster Matavela (35), have been remanded in custody following their appearance before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on 12 March 2026, on charges related to the possession of stolen vehicles.
The accused were arrested on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at approximately 20:30 by members of the Witbank SAPS. According to police reports, authorities acted on a tip-off regarding a bakkie towing a trailer that had allegedly departed from the Coronation area. The vehicle was reportedly transporting two motorbikes and two quad bikes.
Police tracked the vehicle to the N4 highway, where it was intercepted. A search of the vehicle and trailer revealed the two motorbikes and two quad bikes concealed under plastic bags. The suspects were unable to produce documentation for the bikes and were subsequently arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were in the process of transporting the stolen items to Mozambique. Further police work confirmed that the bikes had been stolen during the previous month in the Model Park area.
During their court appearance, the case against Khoza and Matavela was postponed to 19 March 2026, to allow for further investigation. In addition to the theft-related charges, Matavela faces an additional count for contravening the Immigration Act.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests.
