Two Brothers Arrested After Unlicensed Firearms Handed Over

A police operation in the Bhojini locality led to the arrest of two brothers on charges of unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Thursday night.

Members of the South African Police Service Tactical Response Team were deployed to Willowvale following a tip-off from a reliable source. Intelligence indicated that two suspects were keeping unlicensed firearms at their residential homestead.

Officers began observing the area in the early hours of Thursday. Surveillance included monitoring a location where one of the suspects was believed to be operating a taxi. As the day progressed, additional information confirmed that both suspects were present at their home.

At approximately 22:00, the Tactical Response Team approached the homestead where extended family members were present. Upon questioning, the two suspects cooperated with police and voluntarily handed over the unlicensed firearms in their possession.

Following the handover, one of the suspects directed officers to another address located a few kilometres away. Police conducted a follow-up investigation at that location.

The two suspects, aged 29 and 33, were arrested and are facing charges related to the unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
