Two Arrested for Suspected Stolen Chrome

Police arrested two men for illegal possession and transportation of suspected stolen chrome on Sunday, 11 January 2026.

The suspects, aged 36 and 42, were apprehended at approximately 20:30 during a patrol on the R579 road. Acting on information, police located a white Scania horse-and-trailer with Mpumalanga registration and red side tippers. The vehicle matched a report of a truck illegally transporting stolen chrome along the R37 near Mogodi Village toward Gauteng.

A search of the side tippers revealed chrome. The occupants could not produce legal documentation for the cargo.

The chrome has an estimated street value of R150,000. The truck and side tippers, valued at approximately R1.2 million, were impounded.

The suspects will appear in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, facing charges of possession and transportation of suspected stolen precious metals.
