Police in Letsitele, under the Mopani District, have arrested two suspects in connection with an incident involving attempted murder, extortion, and kidnapping.
The suspects, aged 38 and 31, were arrested on Thursday, 19 March 2026, following an incident at a farm in the area.
According to police reports, a 30-year-old male victim was collecting firewood at the farm when he was confronted by the two suspects, who are known to him as security guards employed at a neighboring game reserve. The suspects allegedly threatened to arrest him and demanded money.
The victim was escorted to his residence, where he gave the suspects R500. He was then instructed to provide the remaining amount at a later stage.
Later that evening, at approximately 20:00, the suspects allegedly forced entry into the victim’s room, assaulted him with knobkerries, tied him with a rope, and stabbed him in the upper body. The victim was then forcibly taken to a nearby game reserve, where he was tied to a tree and shot with an air rifle.
