Two Arrested Following Armed Robbery at Free State Shop

The Thabo Mofutsanyana District Executive Detective Team has arrested two suspects in their twenties in connection with a business robbery that took place on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on November 25, 2025, at approximately 16:45. According to police reports, a foreign shopkeeper was seated behind the counter of his store when two young men entered, initially posing as customers. One of the suspects remained stationed at the door while the other approached the counter.

It is alleged that the men then produced firearms, threatened the shopkeeper, and demanded money and a card-swiping machine. The suspects proceeded to rob the victim of an undisclosed amount of cash from a money box, a cellphone, and several groceries before fleeing the scene on foot.

Following the robbery, the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Executive Detective Team was enlisted to assist with the investigation. Through a series of community interviews, the team successfully identified and located the suspects, leading to their arrest.

During the operation, police seized a quantity of money and two firearms, which have been sent for ballistic analysis to determine if they were used in other crimes.

The two arrested suspects, both from Petsana near Reitz, are expected to make their initial appearance before the Reitz Magistrate’s Court soon, where they will face formal charges of business robbery.
