An intelligence-driven operation by the multi-disciplinary Frances Baard Illicit Mining Task Team led to the arrest of two suspects on charges of drug possession and armed robbery on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Members of the task team were conducting vehicle and high-visibility patrols in the Kimberley and Galeshewe precincts when they received information regarding a wanted suspect believed to be hiding at the Dingaan Hostels in Galeshewe.
Police operationalized the information and tactically approached the identified premises. During the operation, members observed a male individual throwing an object underneath a vehicle. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a transparent plastic bag containing mandrax tablets.
A further thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of two additional transparent plastic bags containing suspected mandrax tablets. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is R24,000.
Police confiscated the narcotics as well as a white Toyota Tazz, which was allegedly used in the commission of a crime.
A 46-year-old suspect was arrested and is facing charges of possession of drugs. During the same operation, a second suspect, a 44-year-old male who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery case, was also taken into custody. Both suspects are expected to appear in the Galeshewe Magistrates’ Court soon.
