A joint operation by SAPS members and Flagstaff Police led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of multiple firearms in Mtontsasa on Friday morning.
The arrests occurred at Buthulo locality in the Upper Hlabathi Administrative Area. A 56-year-old suspect was found in possession of three shotguns and two 9mm pistols, all of which had intact serial numbers. A 40-year-old suspect was apprehended at the same location after police found him with a prohibited shotgun and ammunition.

Both individuals are facing charges related to the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear before the Flagstaff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 March 2026. The arrests form part of the intensified efforts by police in the OR Tambo District to combat the proliferation of unlicensed firearms.
