A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested on Sunday night following a police operation that led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and the vehicle used in the alleged crime.
According to authorities, the Fezile Dabi District Trio Task Team acted on intelligence received on Sunday, 22 February 2026, at approximately 23:00. The information pertained to a firearm reportedly stolen in Vredefort on Saturday, 21 February 2026.
Members of the task team conducted a tracing operation, which led them to locate the identified vehicle in the vicinity of Arcon Park, Vereeniging. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, a chase ensued before the suspects were successfully intercepted.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, law enforcement officials recovered the reported firearm. A revolver pistol was seized, along with the vehicle that was used in the commission of the offense.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Vredefort Magistrate’s Court in due course to face a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
