On Saturday, 31 January 2026, the Maitland Flying Squad arrested three men and recovered a firearm following a vehicle hijacking.
The squad responded to a complaint about a hijacking in Woodstock, during which the vehicle’s owner was shot. Officers located the hijacked blue BMW behind a fuel station on Parow Street, Maitland.
Three male suspects were inside the vehicle. As police advanced, the suspects attempted to flee on foot but were immediately apprehended.
A search found one suspect in possession of a 9mm pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.
The suspects, aged between 32 and 42, were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
