Three suspects were fatally wounded in a high-speed chase and exchange of gunfire with the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) early this morning, following a hijacking and kidnapping in which the female victim escaped unharmed.
According to authorities, members of the elite unit received intelligence regarding suspects allegedly involved in hijackings and kidnappings on Elm Road in Crystal Park. In response, officers conducted a tactical patrol of the area.
At approximately 20:30, the TOMS members observed a vehicle matching the description—a silver-grey Opel Astra—moments after the suspects had forcibly removed a woman from her Fiat and bundled her into their getaway vehicle.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, during which the suspects opened fire on the police. The chase ended when the suspects’ vehicle struck a side barrier and careened into an embankment.
In the aftermath of the incident, three suspects were found fatally wounded. The kidnapped victim was rescued at the scene and reported to be uninjured.
A subsequent search of the suspects’ vehicle led to the recovery of two firearms as well as several personal possessions belonging to the victim.
