Three Sentenced to 69 Years in Combined Prison Terms for Armed Robbery

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has welcomed the sentencing of three suspects to a combined 69 years of direct imprisonment by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 12 September 2025.

The three men were convicted on charges of armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of unlicensed firearms. Their convictions stem from a violent incident on 26 September 2023 in Yeoville, where they robbed a woman of her cellphone at gunpoint.

The court handed down the following individual sentences:

  • Pilet Ncube (22): 16 years imprisonment, declared unfit to possess a firearm, and ordered to be deported.

  • Arnold Ncube (28): 34 years imprisonment, declared unfit to possess a firearm, and ordered to be deported.

  • Lucky Sibanda (26): 19 years imprisonment, declared unfit to possess a firearm, and ordered to be deported.
