The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested a 34-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in a pond.
According to police, the investigation began on 15 March 2026, when a young boy and his friends discovered the body of a female in a suitcase submerged in a pond. The incident occurred in the maizefield area near a local dumping site. Emergency services personnel responded to the scene and declared the victim deceased.
Following the discovery, a multidisciplinary team comprising local detectives, the District Murder Task Team, and the K9 biological dog unit was assembled. Police report that through the swift gathering of evidence, they were able to identify both the crime scene and a suspect.
Within 24 hours of the body being found, authorities arrested the boyfriend of the deceased. The 34-year-old suspect remains in police custody and is expected to appear before the Aliwal North Magistrate Court soon to face a charge of murder.
