Suspect Arrested for Stoning Shepherd to Death

Phuthaditjhaba Detectives have made a breakthrough in a brutal murder case, arresting one of three suspects wanted for the alleged killing of a shepherd who was stoned to death in Kudumane Village, Qwaqwa.

According to police reports, the incident came to light on Sunday, 14 September 2025, when authorities responded to a murder complaint. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the body of a male foreign national who had sustained severe head injuries. Several stones were found near the victim’s body.

The deceased was last seen by his family on Friday, 12 September 2025. He was later formally identified by his uncle as his nephew, who was employed as a shepherd in the area. A case of murder was immediately opened for investigation.

The investigation progressed on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, when detectives, acting on a tip-off from the community received at approximately 08:00, located a suspect. Later that evening at around 22:00, they successfully traced and arrested the individual at a house in Kudumane Village. The arrested suspect is also a foreign national. The two other suspects connected to the crime remain at large.

The apprehended suspect is scheduled to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 September 2025, where he will face a formal charge of murder. The motive for the attack remains unknown at this time.
