Suspect Arrested for Aiding Escape, Damaging State Property

A 30-year-old suspect has been arrested on charges of defeating the ends of justice and malicious damage to state property following an incident in Muledane village on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Members of the Thohoyandou Task Team were conducting an operation when they successfully re-arrested an escapee who had previously fled from lawful custody.

During the investigation, authorities determined that the escapee had received assistance in removing handcuffs. Police subsequently traced and arrested the suspect at his residence in Muledane village.

According to police, the suspect cut off the handcuffs and later disposed of them. The handcuffs were later recovered at a residential property in the same village.

The suspect is scheduled to appear soon in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court.
