Sasolburg Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Rape

The Sasolburg Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced 25-year-old Itumeleng Mphore to 15 years of imprisonment for rape.

The court heard that on Tuesday, 27 February 2024, Mphore raped a 26-year-old woman before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim subsequently opened a case with the police.

The case docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Agnes Mankge of the Zamdela Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit. Working alongside members of the Zamdela SAPS, the team traced the suspect and arrested him at his residence on Wednesday, 28 February 2024.

Mphore remained in custody pending trial after he failed to appear in court, which led to a warrant being issued for his arrest. On Wednesday, 25 February 2026, the court handed down the 15-year sentence.
