The South African Police Service (SAPS) has welcomed the sentencing of Mboniso Sithako to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his girlfriend in Mchubakazi Township.
The 30-year-old accused was sentenced in the Butterworth Regional Court on 10 February 2026, eight months after his initial arrest.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on 12 June 2025, when Sithako fatally stabbed his girlfriend multiple times inside her home. The attack took place in the presence of the victim’s four-year-old son.
Following the murder, Sithako fled the area to Elliotdale. An intensive investigation was immediately launched by Msobomvu Detectives, who traced the suspect to his hideout. Through coordinated efforts with local Crime Prevention members, Sithako was apprehended on 15 June 2025.
He appeared before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on 25 June 2025, where he was denied bail and remained in custody throughout the duration of his trial.
