SAPS Unit Arrests Man for Unlicensed Firearms

 A 30-year-old man is due to appear in court following his arrest on Tuesday morning for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Members of the SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay Crime Combating Unit (CCU) conducted the arrest at approximately 10:05 on 10 March 2026. Officers spotted a maroon Datsun Go traveling on Kempston Road in the Sydenham area and subsequently pulled the vehicle over for a search.

During the inspection, police discovered a shotgun and a .22 caliber rifle inside the vehicle. Authorities also confiscated 100 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was taken into custody and has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition. He is expected to appear before the magistrate’s court in Gqeberha soon.
