SAPS Seize Dagga Worth R1 Million in Witbank, Driver Flees

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confiscated 46 bags of compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R1 million during a patrol operation on Wednesday night.

According to police, members attached to Witbank SAPS were conducting routine patrols along the R544 route between Witbank and Bethal at approximately 23:00 on 10 March 2026. Officers observed a gold Toyota Hilux bakkie loaded with several large, plastic-wrapped bags.

When police approached the vehicle to investigate, the driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the 46 bags containing compressed dagga.

Police have confiscated both the vehicle and the narcotics. Authorities state that investigations are ongoing and that arrests are imminent.
