SAPS Arrests Man for Unlicensed Firearms in Edleen

Norkem Park SAPS, alongside private security partners, arrested a 56-year-old man on March 21, 2026, for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, pointing of a firearm, and handling a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

Police were conducting a community clean-up operation in Edleen following community concerns over increased housebreaking incidents. During the operation, officers observed a neglected property on Lancelot Street, which they identified as a suspected entry and escape route for suspects.

After obtaining permission from the property owner, officers entered the yard. Upon entry, an adult male pointed a firearm at a police member. The officer instructed the suspect to lower the weapon, and he complied.

Police determined the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. A firearm enquiry revealed the weapon was registered under a different individual, and the suspect failed to produce a valid firearm licence.

A consent search of the premises led to the recovery of three firearms—including a .22 rifle and a .303 rifle—and 309 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was arrested at the scene. All exhibits were seized. He is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
