The South African Police Service has welcomed the significant sentence handed down by the Virginia Regional Court to 70-year-old Taole Eric Tlatsa, the mastermind behind a violent criminal enterprise that targeted clothing chain stores across the Free State Province.
Between 2019 and 2022, a sophisticated criminal syndicate led by Tlatsa and a group of armed accomplices systematically targeted 13 clothing chain stores in towns across the Free State.
An investigation conducted by Sergeant Morena Machalotsa of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit led to the arrest of eight suspects. The investigation revealed that Tlatsa acted as the organizer of an informal criminal organization, coordinating the planning and execution of the robberies.
