A high-speed vehicle chase on the N2 highway in Knysna led to a significant drug bust on Sunday night, with police confiscating dagga with an estimated street value of R470,000. The successful operation forms part of the South African Police Service’s ongoing #SaferFestiveSeason campaign.
According to police reports, the incident began at approximately 22:30 on Sunday, 16 November 2025. Members of the Knysna Crime Prevention Unit were conducting strategic patrols in the town’s central business district when their vigilance paid off.
The officers spotted a suspicious vehicle parked on Main Street. As they approached, the vehicle abruptly sped away, prompting an immediate pursuit. The chase culminated on the N2 highway near the Knysna Provincial Hospital, where police managed to bring the vehicle to a stop.
A subsequent search of the car revealed two large parcels in the back. Upon further inspection, the parcels were found to be filled with dagga. Police seized a total of 58.85 kilograms of the illicit substance.

Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested at the scene. In addition to the drugs, law enforcement confiscated three cell phones, a scale, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspects, aged 43 and 49, remain in police custody. They are scheduled to make their first appearance before the Knysna Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 November 2025, where they will each face a charge of dealing in drugs.
