
The Organised Crime Unit in Gauteng has recovered three AK47 rifles, a 9mm pistol, and a substantial quantity of ammunition during an operation targeting unlicensed firearms.
According to police reports, the intelligence-driven operation was carried out on March 12, 2026, in Lawley Extension 2. The tactical team proceeded to a specific property in the area, where they apprehended two foreign nationals in possession of the weapons.
The seized firearms have been booked for ballistic testing. Forensic experts will examine the weapons to determine if they were used in the commission of previous criminal activities.
The two suspects are scheduled to appear in court on March 16, 2026. They face charges related to the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
