On 25 January 2026 at 05:00, police were alerted to a house fire in Mbobo village, Palmietfontein. Arriving officers found the blaze being extinguished by community members. Inside, they discovered the body of an 18-year-old female on a bed, covered with clothes, blankets, and books. The victim had sustained four stab wounds to her throat.
Preliminary information indicates she was last seen with her boyfriend. A murder case has been officially opened.
Joe Gqabi District Commissioner, Major General Lindelwa Vellem, has ordered a full mobilization of resources to apprehend those responsible. A thorough investigation is currently in progress.
