Police conducting early morning patrols in the Lufhereni area arrested two men and seized a significant arsenal of unlicensed weapons following a suspect vehicle stop on Tuesday.
At approximately 07:30, officers on patrol observed a suspicious Toyota Hilux occupied by six individuals—two women and four men. Upon noticing the police presence, four of the occupants fled the scene on foot. Authorities apprehended the remaining two male suspects, aged 42 and 50.
A search of the suspects led to the discovery of two unlicensed pistols. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a larger cache of weapons and ammunition, including three rifles, two shotguns, and 97 rounds of live ammunition. The ammunition seized comprised 68 rifle rounds, 21 pistol rounds, and eight shotgun rounds.
In addition to the firearms, police recovered 48 packets of cigarettes, a bolt cutter, and a crowbar from the vehicle.
Preliminary police investigations have linked the suspects to a business robbery that occurred in Fochville the previous night.
The two arrested individuals are scheduled to appear before the local magistrate’s court soon. They face charges related to the business robbery, as well as the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
