Napo Mokoena (32) has been sentenced to six years direct imprisonment for the rape of an 11-year-old girl in November 2024.
The incident took place on 20 November 2024 at approximately 19:30. The minor was searching for her mother when she knocked on Mokoena’s door. He allowed her to enter, and she asked about her mother’s whereabouts.
According to court records, instead of answering her question, Mokoena began touching the child inappropriately before taking her to the bedroom where he sexually violated her.
The situation escalated when the girl’s mother arrived at the door. Mokoena instructed the child to hide under the bed, which she did. When the mother entered, he claimed he had not seen her daughter. The mother subsequently left.
After the mother departed, Mokoena gave the victim R10 and instructed her not to tell anyone about the incident. The girl immediately reported the assault to her mother upon leaving.
Detective Sergeant Mofokeng of the Phuthaditjhaba Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit investigated the matter. The accused was found guilty and sentenced on 5 March 2026 by the Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court, in a joint effort between the SAPS and the National Prosecuting Authority.
