A 29-year-old man arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, including critical railway infrastructure, has been remanded in custody by the Rooiberg Periodic Court. The suspect appeared today, Monday, 01 December 2025.
Thomas Masevedze (29) was remanded until Thursday, 04 December 2025, when he is scheduled to make a formal bail application. His arrest followed a swift response by police officers on patrol in the Rooiberg area.
The incident leading to the arrest occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 29 November 2025. At approximately 00:20, police received intelligence regarding a suspicious vehicle travelling along the D928 Road. Patrol members promptly acted on the information, located the vehicle, and brought it to a stop.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered railway tracks, copper pipes, and copper wire, all suspected to be stolen. Masevedze was immediately placed under arrest and processed at the Rooiberg SAPS.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the recovered items and to establish possible connections to other incidents of infrastructure theft in the region.
